Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo said the recruitment of nurses will not be reversed because the process was done in a transparent manner.

Speaking in an interview with the state broadcaster ZBC Moyo said, "The e-recruitment process was done nationally and prioritised capacity and not regions or tribes. The process considered applicants from all over the country including Matabeleland and Bulawayo and recruited applicants at a national level."

There has been a wide outcry in the Matabeleland region over the recruitment of nurses with statistics indicating that applicants from Southern region were snubbed.

Mpilo Central Hospital recruited 24 trainee nurses and 20 were reportedly from Harare, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central.

At the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) it was reported that 23 out of the 27 trainees are from outside the southern region made up of Bulawayo, Masvingo, Midlands, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South provinces.

Vice President Kembo Mohadi told a rally in Bulawayo that he is going to take the matter up with the relevant officials.

Minister of state for Bulawayo Judith Ncube intervened on the matter and said it must be reversed.

Mpilo's Clinical Director Solwayo Ngwenya is on record saying they had no power to influence the application process to get applicants from the region recruited.
