THE net is closing in on 75 bigwigs allegedly involved in corrupt activities as the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) says it has approached some regional and European countries for assistance in recovering externalised funds and assets.

Zacc chairperson Loice Matanda-Moyo told the Daily News yesterday on the sidelines of the joint official opening of anti-corruption courts in Mashonaland east and central in Marondera, that investigations into the bigwigs were almost complete.

"We are still finalising investigations. If you come to our offices, you will find the record of investigations, although we don't want you to expose the names under investigations," Matanda-Moyo said.

"We are left with one or two witnesses. In other instances we have to travel outside the country to finalise the evidence, but we have targeted so many (bigwigs). The last time they were 44, but right now, high profile cases are about 75."

The anti-graft body said it was on a drive to recover huge sums of money externalised over the years, and this resulted in the signing of a memorandum of agreement with Zambia's anti-corruption body in October this year.
