Embattled ZANU-PF Youth leader Lewis Matutu has been accused of practicing tribalism by questioning ZANU-PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu's academic credentials.

Media reports recently said Matutu has questioned Mpofu's Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) qualifications and his source of wealth while responding to a $10 million defamation suit filed against him by the senior party official.

"To enable him to plead, the defendant (Matutu) requests the following further particulars: On what basis is the plaintiff (Mpofu) referred to as a doctor, which institution conferred him with the doctorate degree, a confirmation of his credentials to this effect is requested?" Matutu was quoted saying.

Speaking to this reporter Southern Stars Foundation Acting Director Ndodana Moyo said, "Why is Lewis Matutu targeting Obert Mpofu's educational qualifications, is it tribalism which makes him believe that a Ndebele cannot be educated? For his own information, the region has produced powerful CVs such as Gorden Moyo, Mazithulela the current CIO DDG, Prof Welshman Ncube and several other academics."

Moyo added that Mpofu held a history of credible qualifications from Institutions in Africa and abroad.

"To help Matutu with his distasteful tribal question he must know that Mpofu holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Delhi in India, a Masters from the prestigious and one of Africa's top-ranking institutions Fort Hare in South Africa. He also holds another Masters from the University of Zimbabwe in Policy Studies

"If Matutut did not know Mpofu did his PhD with the Zimbabwe Open University and his thesis was ranked as one of the best, his PhD was in policy studies as he furthered a path that made him an effective policymaker and role player in government. He graduated on the same day as Dr Joram Gumbo, Former Minister Bimha and other High profile senior public figures." Moyo said.
