Hungry women nabbed for stealing maize cobs

Two Bindura women were convicted today by a Bindura magistrate Ethel Chichera after stealing 26 maize cobs.

The duo   Philis Munyanda (34) and Irene Kanodza both from Pimento park farm, Bindura pleaded guilty to the charge and were lucky to escape jail after the magistrate wholly  suspended the  15 day custodial sentence.

"Your worship we stole the maize due to hunger may you give us another chance to repent," lamented the convicts.

Prosecutor Sheila Maribha told the court that February 19 the convicts went to Stephen Kaifa's farm and loaded 26 maize cobs in a bucket.

The farmer saw the duo and ordered them to stop they dropped the bucket and ran away.

He managed to identify them and filed a police report leading to their arrest.
