Confusion over Komichi's resignation from MDC

MDC was Friday forced to dismiss as fake, a 'resignation letter' circulating on social media and purportedly authored by former party vice president Morgen Komichi to incumbent leader Nelson Chamisa.

Party deputy spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka said the ‘resignation letter' was fake and a ‘manufactured' one.

"The usual nonsense. We are tired of these fake letters, including this unsigned one. Only a fake and illegitimate regime can manufacture such letters. Fake letterhead even. Just look at the last line "I wish YOU the best in ITS endeavors. Fakeness redefined," said Tamborinyoka.

Among some of the reasons cited by ‘Komichi' as having pushed his resignation were that the main opposition has lost its core values under Chamisa.

‘Komichi' also says violence and factionalism have rocked the party.

"The core values and principle of the part have been abandoned for the sake of individual benefits. There is no more accountability in the handling of party finances, violence and factionalism have rocked the party, insults and embarrassing moments have become a norm of the day. For this I have decided to tender my resignation," read the letter.

"This letter serves to notify that I am tendering my resignation from the party with immediate effect. It is with a heavy heart that I humbly tender my resignation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our founding father the late Morgan Tsvangirai and the entire MDC family for accommodating me in the revolution, the struggle against dictatorship and the fight for our freedom.

"I sacrificed a lot for Zimbabweans and the party. Beatings, torture and arrests are part of a traumatic experience I went through. However, I have failed to reconcile the events which have taken place in the party."
