Security guard jailed for stealing crates

A 37-YEAR-OLD Mvurwi security guard was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment yesterday by Guruve resident magistrate Shingirai Mutiro for stealing 25 empty crates used for packing fruits at Forester Estate company, Mvurwi.

Peter Nyakwishira of Strike security company was convicted on his own plea of guilty.

Prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court that on March 6 the guard unlawfully gained entry into the companyds packing shed and stole 25 empty crates which are used for packing fruits and are valued at ZWL$18 750.

The guard took the crates and sold them to vendors at Suwoguru Township, Mvurwi.

On March 17 the company discovered that the stolen crates were missing from the packing shed.

Checks were made at Suwoguru vending area and the convict was seen by Marinus Mashoko holding two empty crates selling them to vendors and he was apprehended.

During interviews with the police Nyakwishira admitted to have committed the offense and led them to the recovery of some stolen crates.
