THE Mnangagwa led government has started recording internal transfers of the virus and is set to produce a live geo-tracking system to track the movements and contacts of individuals who will test positive to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking during a post Cabinet media briefing held in Harare yesterday, Health and Child Care minister Obadiah Moyo said his ministry was working together with the Higher and Tertiary Education ministry to deliver a geo-tracking system that would assist in contact tracing.

"We have already started developing the system and we are building on the ICT knowledge that is available. This will help in knowing where a person who tested positive was and the people who came into contact with them.

"We can do this using the satellite or the mobile phone to be able to pick up where the person moved from and who they met with. This will be done in a matter of days and we will soon announce it when it is done," Moyo said.

Higher and Tertiary Education minister Amon Murwira added that the project also involved the Zimbabwe Space Agency which is coordinating how the system would be developed.

"We have assembled a team that is working with the ministry of Health in terms of developing a contact tracing system. This is basically a geographical information system and telephone-based geo-tracking system or location tagging system.

"It is being coordinated through the Zimbabwe Space Agency which is going to work together with the two ministries to make sure that we develop a live system that is able to produce real time spatial and geological data," he said.
