Suspected beer thief bashed to death

TWO Guruve men were arraigned before Guruve resident magistrate Shingirai Mutiro on Tuesday for allegedly killing a suspected thief

The duo Simbarashe Chimedza (26) and Kenny Uyai (22) were not asked to plead to a murder charge before being remanded in custody to April 21.

Mutiro advised them to apply for bail at the High court.

Prosecutor Albert Mazhindu alleged on March 18 Onismo Muzika (16) of Muzika village Guruve died on the spot after he was assaulted by the duo who were assisted by Grace Chihota (52).

The trio accused Muzika of breaking into tuck-shop where he stole 83 can spirits and a packet of Zapnax with his accomplice George Chaurika.

Chaurika is currently battling for life in hospital, after they were both assaulted using wires,wooden sticks and unknown sharp objects.

The suspected thieves were caught stealing in Monica Kondo's (42) tuck-shop at Gezi village, Guruve and were drunk after consuming their loot.

It is further alleged that the duo fled from the scene after committing the crime and Chihota was arrested, they were then arrested after two weeks from their hiding place.
