The National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has postponed the commencement of lectures to next week.

Educational institutions in the country closed prematurely on March 24 due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country.

Government in May instructed universities to reopen starting on June 1 and complete the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year by August 31.

In a statement issued by the Acting Registrar Emmanuel Phiri, outlined the institution's plans for the reopening of the university.

"Final year students inclusive of parallel and block programmes are advised that lectures will commence on June 15 2020 under a phased approach as initially communicated," said Phiri.

He added that all lessons will be conducted during the day and advised students to abide to set schedules.

"Please note that all lessons will be conducted during the day that is between 8 am and 3 pm," said Phiri.

"Students are advised to strictly abide by a schedule that is divided into three faculties."

He further added that students will be given letters authorising them to travel and are expected to observe measures set out to combat the spread of Covid-19.

"Chairpersons of department will issue letters authorising students to travel from their various places of residence to NUST," he said.

"Students are expected to observe social distancing, wearing of masks shall be compulsory on campus and there will be temperature checking and sanitization at all points of entry."

Meanwhile, universities such as Lupane State University and Great Zimbabwe University commenced lessons yesterday.
