Soldiers up for a gold rush

TWO Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) members and their five accomplices were arrested at a roadblock after they were found in possession of 50 kilograms of gold ore.

Prichard Padzuru (30) a corporal in the ZNA based at 5 brigade, Kwekwe, Nelson Chari (36) a sergeant in the ZNA,Bruce Muchihwa (31), Obvious Nekati (29), Banga Innocent(33),Tendai Ashton Sakula (25) and Richmore Mudzimundiringe (39) appeared before Guruve magistrate Shingirai Mutiro yesterday.

They were remanded out of custody to July 21.

The state led by Albert Mazhindu alleged on June 25 police manning a road block along Mvurwi-Guruve road received a tip off that the soldiers were illegally mining and had carried their 50kg gold ore in a Honda Aria.

The suspects were intercepted at the road block and a search was conducted.

The police found the gold ore and arrested them.
