KARIBA - Some residents in the resort town of Kariba have raised red flag to Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management to tame troops of baboons attacking patients at the district hospital.

A Save Our Soul (SOS) message sent by some residents is pleading for action as patients have lost records, linen as baboons search for food. Part the message reads.

"ZimParks could you please come to the rescue of patients and staff at the hospital. Baboons are causing havoc, getting through windows taking patients food and tearing linen and mattresses apart. Patients records and medications being messed around. Please help. Some window panes have been broken already. There are very big baboons among the troop which are terrorizing patients in the wards. Please help!!!,"

There was no immediate reaction from ZimParks rangers after the message was sent via social media early this week.

Residents in the resort town have raised alarm over abuse by wild animals including baboons that used to target women snatching food while elephants have destroyed some public market place at Jumbo in search of food.

Human and wildlife conflict has been a threat to livelihoods in the resort town that still attract world tourists with the international Big Five animals including elephants, cheetah, lions, buffalo and rhinoceroses. These can be viewed by tourists through game drive while the mighty man made Lake Kariba has been another attraction.
