THEZimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission said it would
investigate the goings-on at the local authority after a lobby group,
Chapter 2 Movement, said the council must be held accountable over the
deaths.
Last Friday, the Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association filed an urgent High Court chamber application against council demanding vital documents from the local authority in preparation for a lawsuit linked to the diarrhoea-related deaths and infections in the city.
Council has announced it needs US$1 482 000 to address issues of water contamination in Luveve and surrounding suburbs. The council action plans involve the rehabilitation of its water and sewer infrastructure as it has reportedly outlived its lifespan.
Meanwhile, MDC leader Thokozani Khupe is demanding daily reports from Bulawayo city fathers on the local authority's action plans towards addressing the typhoid, diarrhoea and dysentery outbreak that has claimed 13 lives in the city.
Khupe assumed control of the opposition party following a Supreme Court ruling that declared Nelson Chamisa an an illegitimate leader using the 2014 party structures.
