POLICE in Mutoko, Mashonaland East province, have launched a manhunt for a 37-year-old man who allegedly murdered his wife before dumping the body in a nearby stream after a heated domestic dispute.

Oswell Chimbwanda of Mubvumbi village, under Chief Charehwa, is on the run after he allegedly bludgeoned his wife Winnet Muchemwa (28) with a log.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident.

"It is with grief and sadness that I report this tragic incident. Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect. He is believed to be behind the murder and we urge those who know his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station. Moreover, we urge the public to amicably solve any misunderstanding rather than resorting to violence," he said.

According to police, some time in June this year, the couple had a domestic dispute that resulted in the suspect staying with his parents.

On July 12, at around 4am, it is reported that the suspect who is employed at a quarry mine in Mutoko woke up to prepare to go to work. The deceased then approached him shouting obscenities.

The suspect's mother Revai Chimbwanda (64) heard the noise and tried to intervene in vain.

It is reported that Muchemwa followed her husband, who was on his way to work, insulting him. The two exchanged harsh words about 200 metres away from the homestead, prompting the suspect's parents to follow them.

After following them, the suspect's parents discovered a pool of blood, followed the spoor and discovered the deceased's body dumped in a nearby stream.

The matter was reported at ZRP Mutoko who attended the scene and recovered a bloodstained log and stone close to the corpse.
