Showdown as battle to control Mash Central spills into parliament

25 Feb 2020 at 06:54hrs | Views
The political tussle over Mazowe West and supremacy in Mashonaland Central has reached a new level as Kazembe Kazembe has roped in Parliamentary Portfolio Committee to fight Tafadzwa Musarara Grain Millers Chairman and Mashonaland Central businessman.

Kazembe Kazembe enlisted the support of his political cronies who include Justice Wadyajena, Mlauzi and Davis Muhambi to hit hard against Tafadzwa Musarara and weaken the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe.

Details have emerged of how Kazembe Kazembe funded the Small to Medium Millers Association of Zimbabwe which was founded by Davis Muhambi as a rival to the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe. According to details revealed by insiders from Bulawayo it was Minister Kazembe Kazembe who facilitated high level meetings for Davis Muhambi on behalf of SMMAZ. It was also Minister Kazembe who recommended Davis Muhambi as a useful witness to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee inquiry into GMB silos as well as the special wheat facility.

When the parliamentary portfolio Committee realised that there was no evidence of wrong doing on the part of GMAZ they created a diversionary tactic in the form of reports of Maize going to DRC, this is a rumour that was started by Davis Muhambi and Mr Ross who are both members of the Small to Medium Millers Association of Zimbabwe.

Davis Muhambi is an expelled member of GMAZ who was expelled because he wasn't paying his subscriptions, while Mr Ross was an aggrieved applicant who failed to qualify for GMAZ membership. These 2 characters have sour grapes and motive to tarnish the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe and ruin business and credibility of the big Millers in Zimbabwe.

It has also emerged that while Tafadzwa Musarara appeared before the Wadyajena Committee  his evidence and presentation on GMB silos and the 27 million wheat facility were ignored by Wadyajena who caused him to be summoned again before the same committee to discuss the same issues all over again. It was at this point that Musarara wrote to Parliament and the Speaker crying foul over the way Wadyajena was treating him. Wadyajena misled the public that GMAZ had not accounted for the 27 million USD, when in fact he had been given all records and they were made public.

Realising that GMAZ plays by the rules, Kazembe set in to use his new portfolio Committee on Home Affairs to intimidate Millers in the Musarara fight.

Police raided Millers warehouses, this is a duplication of duties as there is a taskforce chaired by Deputy Minister Raj Modi which also involves the police which is meant to monitor mealie meal in particular subsidised roller meal.

The stunt by the police and some media outlets gave Millers a lot of public support and sympathy as it became evident that Millers were being intimidated and abused.

The next move is to drag Tafadzwa Musarara and GMAZ before Parliament and humiliate them in parliament before taking the fight to ZACC and the courts. A member of Parliament said Wadyajena was determined to have Tafadzwa Musarara humiliated and even jailed so that they send a powerful message to Millers.

The move to intimidate and frustrate Millers is likely to cause mealie meal shortages and the impact will lead to food riots. Several analysts have warned that food riots will be used as a tool to create a motion of impeachment against President ED Mnangagwa, and it seems the ball is in motion already.
