May the Lord of hosts give us more rains

Magamba knitted his eyebrow in askance at the next man as he handed him the Super Chibuku brew for another heavy swig. If only it could rain one more time, most farmers need another downpour for full maturity of the maize crop.

Moisture stress is disappointingly beginning to show its ugly face in some maize fields where the plants are now at critical stages.

This is the time when adequate rains are needed if we are to end the summer season in style. The three friends were sharing a drink at nearby shops but the alcohol could not blot the reality of insufficient rainfall that could derail prospects of good yields and 'show grade' harvest.

The drinking trio had reason to get worried, the rains have been away for long and now some crops are wilting again. The promising crops are under stress, rains are needed now. May the churches, village elders and prosperity prophets put heads together and 'cry' to the Heavens for the much needed rains.

Mazowe North had done very well this season especially on tobacco and maize production. Mash. Central is the country's bread basket province and a drought induced 'dent' on the granary would mean a drop in expected national harvest.

May the Lord of hosts give us more rains so everyone can have enough food on the table. No farmers no future.
