Spare a thought for the orphan this winter

25 May 2020 at 07:43hrs | Views
Very soon some orphans, lonely widows and the neglected elderly will be shivering like reeds in flooded rivers because of the cold. It is that time of the year when those in better situations should spare a thought for the poor souls.

Even an oversized hand-me-down jersey, jacket or woollen hat can keep someone in need warm this winter.

The winter season in some parts of Zimbabwe can be very harsh and merciless. It is also time when precautions must be taken to avoid inferno caused injuries and deaths as people try to keep warm with overnight fires and charcoal burners.

Everyone in the village and towns knows someone in dire straits on account of extreme poverty, why not help by giving them that garment you have not used for over two years?

Surely you do not need it now since you did not want it last winter. Street children in towns can not go out to ask or beg for alms because of the lockdown, its for those with big hearts to feed such souls. Last year an old lonely woman perished when her rickety hut caught fire as she tried to keep warm in rural western Zimbabwe.

Children of God indeed times are hard but are more harder for others than some. We do not give because we do not have, we do not have because we do not give. May the Almighty God bless the hand that giveth.
