Thief robs 100-year-old woman

A Mutare man has been arrested on charges of robbing a 100-year-old woman of US$5 000 and household goods.

Tawanda Chinjakasi (31) appeared before Mutare magistrate Tamara Chibindi on Friday, who remanded him in custody to June 17. He is denying the charges.

Prosecutor Nyasha Mukonyori said on May 28 at around 3pm in Mutare, Chinjakasi took advantage of the complainant easter Zvoushe's advanced age by forcibly getting into her house.

The accused covered the complainant's face with a cloth, searched her and took her wallet, which was in her bra and stole us$5 000, $1 500 and household goods. He went away, leaving the complainant covered with the cloth.

On May 31, a report was made to the police and investigations were made that led to the accused's arrest. He was found with $3 408 and us$100.
