ZIMSEC Please Be Honest On Results Inflation

Dear

The recent article on examination grade results inflation by Prof A. Mutambara and the criticism that followed shows how shallow minded we are. It is a fact that examination results do not reflect our pupils' intelligence or academic capabilities as they are being manipulated by the relevant authority either to please their masters or cover up for their shortcomings.

My analysis and support for Prof Mutambara's well researched view is based on the fact that most of the times teachers are on strike hence loss of teaching time. Secondly, teachers' morale is at its lowest hence they are not teaching but cheating. Check around, students are always not in class but roaming around. So if students are excelling under these circumstances then there is no need to have teachers at all! Thirdly, these kids who are said to have passed with high colours don't even exhibit any sign of intelligence so much that one will be forced to think they are kindergarten kids. Fourthly, there is a lot of examination paper leaks hence a lot of pupils get hold of the examination question papers well before the hour of writing.

Our education standard has gone down due to maladministration, low morale, poor remuneration and cheating. This has even affected our tertiary institutions where you find graduates who cannot solve simple problems. It is high time we do an introspection into our learning system and revamp it so as to produce graduates who are innovative.
