Zimbabwe Cricket Governing Board to be reinstated after a court order

The Sports and Entertainment Commission (SRC) finally succumbed to the pressure and lifted a suspension of the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) Board led by Tawangwa Mukhuhalani, including acting managing director Givemore Makoni, following an order from the Administrative Court.

The ruling also comes in the wake of the ICC's letter to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on July 24 directing them to "unconditionally" reinstate the eviction board or risk expiration of their membership.

"As per the said court order, the SRC suspends the suspension of the directors of ZC, including the acting managing director (Givemore Makoni), with immediate effect," said a statement issued by the SRC on Thursday. "The Interim Committee stops administering Zimbabwean cricket affairs accordingly."

The ZC Board, which was suspended in June, ruled the court after appealing for the SRC's original approval in an administrative court.

The decision by the SRC follows a court order, which came after ZC's suspended directors appealed the verdict in the Administrative Court of Zimbabwe. The resumption of Mukuhalani and others paves the way for Zimbabwe to join back into the international fold. The ICC will call for its next meeting on 12 October, four days after the deadline for Zimbabwe.

In a July 24 letter, the ICC warned of a possible termination if Zimbabwean cricket fails to find a way to a democratically elected board. Should the ICC not receive a satisfactory response from you on the above terms, within the stipulated time frame, the ICC reserves the right to take such further action, as it is appropriate in which to proceed according to the manner of termination of your membership. Zimbabwe, with their full member rights suspended, has already lost to a berth in the upcoming World T20 qualifier. Nigeria converted her into a male qualifier while Namibia converted her into a female qualifier.

The SRC hereby revokes the entire suspension of the entire board of ZC which was elected on 14 June 2019.

The SRC has canceled and rescinded the appointment of the interim committee appointed to handle and administer the affairs of the ZC.
