Old age forced Zanu-PF politburo member out of active politics

Zanu-PF Politburo member and former Midlands governor Cephas Msipa said he quit active politics after the entrance into the fray of such youthful players like MDC-T's Nelson Chamisa made him realise he was too old for the game.
Speaking at a field day last Friday Msipa said old age had forced him to leave public office in 2008.
Msipa once equated political leadership to a relay.
On Friday, Msipa said: "I remember one day when we were in Parliament, I sat next to Chamisa and I looked at the youngster and said to myself, can I continue brushing shoulders with a young chap like this?"
"I just said to myself, I am old and I should retire and concentrate on something else. I am now putting my energies for the few years I am left with in life into farming."
Now Zimbabwe's private media interprets Msipa's remarks as aimed at President Mugabe, who at 88 years old is "tenaciously" clinging to power and has since announced he will contest the next elections on the party ticket.
