ZANU-PF has condemned the recent acts of violence by the MDC-T against its supporters in Epworth, Harare.

In a statement, Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Rugare Gumbo said they are particularly disturbed by the petrol bombing of  Bishton Kucherana, who is ZANU-PF's Acting Vice-Secretary for Domboramwari District.

"These attacks blatantly violate fundamental rights as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe, more specifically Section 52 of the Constitution which guarantees the right to personal security and freedom from all forms of violence.

"These renewed acts of violence by members of the MDC-T are also inimical to our well-known culture of peace and tolerance and are a blatant contradiction of President Mugabe's constant call for peace in Zimbabwe,"  Gumbo said.

He said the people of Zimbabwe deserve much better than "this senseless, sadistic behaviour, which is not only beginning to cause terror amongst our members but also giving a bad name to our otherwise nonviolent country."

"Accordingly, we call on Mr Tsvangirai to commit himself and his party to democratic means of pursuing politics, not just in words but in actions and to halt all acts of violence against political opponents forthwith.

"Mr Tsvangirai must call on his party supporters to refrain from violent behaviour, exercise restraint and respect the basic human rights of all citizens," he said.

Gumbo said violence is not an acceptable method of resolving political differences in the 21st century, adding that any political differences must be resolved through dialogue and exchange of ideas, rather than exchange of blows.
