Telecel Zimbabwe has unveiled a $24 000 sponsorship package for the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists to facilitate the training of journalists on new media and on Information Communication Technology reporting.

Telecel is sponsoring workshops in Gweru, Bulawayo, Masvingo and Marondera, all of which are aimed at enabling reporters to make optimum use of new media technologies and enhancing media coverage of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

Last year Telecel sponsored similar workshops in Harare and Mutare.

Telecel Zimbabwe public relations, corporate social responsibility and sponsorship manager Francis Chimanda said Telecel has a history of working with ZUJ, chiefly through its sponsorship of the NJAMA annual awards for journalists.

"Our decision to support ZUJ and in particular the journalist covering the technology sector is part of our corporate social responsibility focus on supporting technology linked initiatives," he said.

"Our sponsorship of ZUJ-organised journalist workshops started last year with two pilot workshops in Harare and Mutare.

"After the success and popularity of these training workshops among the media fraternity we decided to expand the programme's reach to include other provinces by establishing a $24, 000 fund for this.

"We hope our partnership with ZUJ will continue to create value for the media and the technology sector as a whole," he said.
