NETONE looks set to increase its subscriber base after releasing an advert calling on subscribers to move over and retain the last 5 or 6 digits of their current numbers.
NetOne number matching service has just been unveiled allows new NetOne subscribers who are crossing over from other networks to keep the last 6 digits from their old phone number.
The process involves verifying if the number you want is available.
Mobile subscribers have been waiting for POTRAZ, the telecoms industry regulator to introduce Mobile Number Portability. Not only does it give subscribers an option to move between networks, but even if there isn't that much movement it increases competitiveness and customer service delivery.
POTRAZ, Zimbabwe's telecoms regulator has sent notices
to the mobile networks warning them that it wants to introduce Mobile
Number Portability next year.
In the notice issued in 2013 by POTRAZ, it said: "The inability of subscribers to retain their respective mobile telephone numbers when they change service providers presents an obstacle to competition and an inconvenience to the customers."
The expected launch of MNP in the country is still not clear though.
