Zimbabwe Clothing Manufacturers Association (ZCMA) will be hosting their 5th Clothing Indaba in Bulawayo on the 26th of September 2014.
These events have become well known for their proactive way of bringing stakeholders together to resolve problems and derive solutions to the numerous challenges being faced by industry. ZCMA is a leading champion of supporting locally manufactured goods and advocates growing local procurement and support through moral suasion and enforcing compliance with international standards.
The clothing industry in Zimbabwe is well known for producing quality goods, with many companies still exporting even though locally they have lost substantial market share to imports. ZCMA highlights that often the reason imported goods cost less is because they are of inferior quality and/or have not paid the correct duties.
The Chairperson of ZCMA, Mr. Jeremy Youmans, stated that the main aims of the Clothing Indabas is to raise awareness of the capabilities of the local industry and to market the tangible and intangible benefits of supporting local industry for all Zimbabweans, whether in the public or private sectors or a consumer.
This event will also include the launch of the Zimbabwe Cotton Strategy, an EU funded programme, which has been led by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The strategy involved stakeholders in the value addition chain, i.e. farmers, ginners, oil expressors and textile/clothing manufacturers, with technical assistance from COMESA and the International Trade Centre (ITC). The strategy is the most progressive work that has been done on the cotton chain.
The launch will be officiated by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Hon. Mike Bimha, the Secretary General of COMESA, Mr. Sindiso Ngwenya and the Executive Director of ITC, Ms Arancha Gonzalez.
The day will commence with the launch, then proceed into stakeholders' sessions, including exhibitions by suppliers to the industry, business to business meetings, and concluded with the now highly respected ZCMA Fashion Show.
