Chief Executive Officers and Chairpersons of committees from uMzingwane and Beitbridge Rural District Councils (RDCs) participated in a two-day arts, culture and heritage capacity building workshop on the 9th and 10th of March at the Beitbridge RDC Boardroom.
According to Amagugu International Heritage Center the meeting was convened under the auspices of the Strengthening Local Cultural Policy in Zimbabwe project and resourced by UNESCO under the banner of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity, the purpose of the workshop was to enhance Councillors' and Council management's comprehension of arts, culture and heritage and its connection with service delivery.
"Of the numerous positives emanating from the workshop, the most immediate was the realisation by Councilors and Council bureaucrats of the need to pay artists for various services rendered," said AIHC.
"I will remember to pay artists who perform at my functions or at Council functions. Artists are professionals and they have families to feed through their work", said Gladys Tlou, Beitbridge Rural District Council Chairperson.
With the workshop convened, the next phase of the project is development of cultural policies and strategies for the two respective Councils.
