Brenda Fassie's super-talented son Bongani has survived suicide bid, South African newspapers have reported.
This emerged when Bongani told newspapers that nearly 10 years after the death of his mother he had not received a cent from her estate.
"A lot of Brenda's money was stolen. I still haven't received a cent from her estate." Said Bongani.
Newspapers said Bongani Fassie has survived three suicide attempts.
In response, Bongani said: "I was only 19 when my mother passed away. It was the most difficult time of my life. I was struggling to make sense of my loss and how to forge ahead with my life," he recalls.
"I had little say in running my life with a self-appointed manager and self-appointed legal guardians. At my mother's funeral music executives and politicians made lots of promises, but never honoured them. I took that badly.
There has been media reports that Bongani was heading down the same road as his mother - living a life of non-stop parties fuelled by booze and drug binges, surrounded by penniless hangers-on.
And his long time sponsor - independent record label Ghetto Ruff - confirmed he has quit the popular three-man hip hop crew Jozi that made him famous.
Bongani's' lifestyle in the last five years has been sponsored by Ghetto Ruff for the past few years.
The Greenside house he lives in has a fully fitted recording studio and he drives a BMW - all paid for by Ghetto Ruff boss Lance Stehr
'Whenever I'm there these guys are there asking people for money for drugs'
Despite his lavish fully sponsored life, it is believed that Bongani, commonly known by his rapper name Bongz, has left his group in a bid to start his own label, Fassie Records.
He has failed to pitch at the group's album launch, leaving the two remaining members Ishmael "Ish" Morabe and Lesley "Da Les" Mampe to perform at the Latinova club to surprised audiences.
A regular visitor to the house blamed his friends.
"None of them work. They are always there and they do copious amounts of drugs - especially coke. They have no money and they influence him. He pays for all these drugs.
However, Bongani said the allegations were "shallow".
