SOUTH Africa's hip hop superstar Cassper Nyovest on Saturday evening said he was overwhelmed by the warm reception from Zimbabweans during his show proving that there was no danger of xenophobic reprisals.

The rapper had been skeptical about performing in Zimbabwe after threats of violence or a boycott of his show in protest against the ongoing xenophobic attacks on Zimbabweans by South Africans.

Calls to boycott the show in Bulawayo at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds fell on deaf ears as evidenced by the number of people that attended the show.

The Big Nuz show was cancelled two weeks ago over fears of xenophobic reprisals but Nyovest's show proved that Zimbabweans are not violent.

The number of security officers at the venue showed that promoters wanted to ensure Nyovest was safe.

The much hyped show had performances from Winky D, Djembe Monks, Cal_Vin, Mzoe 7 and Rico Andrews who all justified their inclusion.

During the show Nyovest expressed his pleasure at performing for the crowd when he was on stage and said he took a risk to come to Zimbabwe despite threats to his life.

"I took a risk after getting death threats and I came to perform for my brothers. I knew that I would be safe in the hands of my brothers and thank you for that, down with xenophobia," he said.

Nyovest was clad in Zimbabwean flag colours as he went on stage and the crowd started screaming and shouting out his name. At first one could sense the rapper was nervous but as the show went on he came out of his shell. During his performance Nyovest used his cellphone to take videos of the crowd singing along his tracks such as, Doc Shebeleza, Phumakim', Gusheshe, Travel the World and Ghetto Life which he shared on social media.

He said it was like performing in his home town Mafikeng in South Africa.

"Bulawayo was lit last night!!!! I felt like I was performing in Maftown!!! They knew songs people in SA don't know. Ai!!! Thank you," Nyovest shared on Twitter.

Nyovest wrapped up his performance by bringing on stage Luveve born rapper Cal_Vin and sang the remix of Zikhuphan' that was released in the afternoon.

Cal_Vin only performed the original track Zikhupan' just before he went on stage. Although he had a cameo performance, he impressed.

Before the Nyovest performance Winky D showed why he is still a crowd puller as he brought the house down. The Ninja President was in a no nonsense mood as his performance was fast paced from beginning to the end when he left the crowd asking for more.
