TEMBISA - Mthwakazi Maskandi queen Igqishamnkantsha had a fabulous year with her debut album 'Mina nawe' as she went on to win a record and historic treble of awards here in South Africa.
Posslete Ncube Khumalo popularly known as Igqishamnkantsha on music circles is a half Zimbabwean – half South African artists who has defied odds with her first album in this tough music industry.
Under MMMP music productions and promotions, 'Mina nawe' a 12 track album made headlines throughout the year winning award after award on different occasions. She had Maskandi wizards in her album as the bass guitar was played by Saveya Zulu and the lead guitar by Inhlalabeyinuka.
Her first award was from Stayela Awards in Newcastle (KZN) where supporters were voting on the stage. Three awards were on offer and our pride brought home the second one.
Then along came the KZN Capital Maskandi Awards 2016 in Pietermaritzburg. On the Best Maskandi Newcomer category, Igqisha came first after fans voted for her through smses.
Her third award was won in KZN again Umgeni Music Awards. She was nominated alongside 7 artists on the Best Song of the year category. Against all odds her smash hit Amanzamnyama proved to be too good as she swept home her record breaking and historic third award.
This surely must be a break-through to other Mthwakazi artists as well. This is a confidence and moral boaster as it shows that Mthwakazi artists can now go toe to toe with their KZN counterparts and come top.
Igqisha expressed appreciation and gratitude towards all who contributed to her success.
