Gweru visually impaired musician John Madubeko got an unexpected early Christmas present Thursday after a Harare business woman, who declined to be named, donated to him a set of musical instruments that included drums and speakers.

Madubeko performs on streets in the Midlands capital city and nearby Kwekwe together with his five year-old daughter Kholiwe who plays drums.

He says the gesture by the anonymous woman will go a long way in transforming his musical career.

The donation to the 48 year-old father of five follows a story aired and published recently by VOA Studio 7 and a video featuring Madubeko and Kholiwe shot by Sam Ngoni Zaranyika of Harare.

Madubeko, who plays rhumba and mbaqanga, was born with his sight but later lost it while his wife was born blind.

The blind musician said he is now contemplating forming his own band and is working on releasing his first compact disc.

Madubeko said he still requires an amplifier and two guitars to make good street performances.
