JOHANNESBURG - Teenage Zimbabwe dancing sensation, Gettie Diamond, will early next month launch her first DVD in Johannesburg.
Born Getron Sibanda in Filabusi, Matabeleland South 16 years ago, Gettie Diamond is an upcoming house-kwasa singer based in Johannesburg.
She will launch the DVD of her debut offering and only album thus far, "Uziqhenye", which was released in December last year.
"I will be launching the DVD at Learnmore Hall in Hillbrow on April 9, 2016. Entry tickets will be charged at R30 and I will be performing with a number of renowned Johannesburg-based Zimbabwean musicians who include maskandi singer Skhiye Mdluli and Zimbabwean house-kwasa pioneer Vivianne Nomakanjani," said the teenage star.
"We will be doing what we love and what we do best. My group has three young, talented and energetic dancers who will entertain the crowd.
Nge launch lena ngifuna ukuzifaka ebantwin and ngicela isupport yabo (I will use this launch to introduce myself to music lovers and I would need their support) because without people's support I cannot go anywhere. In short, I need your support, so come in your large numbers to see what I have for you and you will not be disappointed."
She paid tribute to those who have worked with her, including her Manager Mbangiseni Malaba, Dj Mapressa and Skhiye Mdluli, who are all helping her even in organising the launch.
"Uziqhenye" was produced by Maqhawe Ncube, but Gettie Diamond composed all songs and did all lead vocals.
"I was inspired by Slizer, who plays a similar genre. Her music inspired me when I was still young. I believe this is the first step in my endeavour to be known the world over. Slizer, Fortue Dawu and Vivianne are my role models."
She appealed for financial help in pushing her dream.
"I face many challenges as a young musician and that includes funding problems. Sometimes I fail to pay for the studio because I come from an average family that cannot do everything for me, although they do try," she added.
"Sometimes I pull out of events due to lack of funds to pay participation fees and transport for my group. I think it also comes with being young because very few people believe in you, while others look down upon you and that diminishes your chances of getting sponsorship.
"Sometimes bigger artists try to take advantage of you by promising to take you to a different level, yet they would be after something totally different, after which they dump you without helping you achieve anything, but I have personally vowed to stand my ground and persevere in face of all these challenges. I believe that with God, all shall be well and I will reach my desired level."
Originally from Dolo, Mazwi Village under Chief Chizungu in Filabusi, Gettie Diamond is still a student at Mayibuye Secondary school in Johannesburg, where she is doing Grade 12.
Back home, she attended Shumagange Primary School, Mandava high school (Zvishavane) and Chizungu High school in Mberengwa.
