Pansula music which originated from South Africa in the early 1990s is being revived by a local artist, Fortue Dawu, who says she is mostly inspired by the music's danceable beat and rhythm.

Inspired by South African musicians such as Girly Mafura and Ntombi Marumbini, Dawu said she has been looking forward to reviving the music that she grew up listening to.

Like a lot of other musicians, Dawu is surviving on live shows where she plays locally and in the region.

Recently, she featured in a Rhumba Festival in South Africa where she shared the stage with other regional artists.

"My hope is that one day I will be able to collaborate with some of these artists. I will keep on working and believe that the media plays an important  role for artists to get recognition. Radio air play and positive press reviews play a critical role in one's career," she said.

As new artists continue to emerge and venture into new musical territories, Dawu is among a few musicians who for inspiration in the past, are rekindling memories on an era in which music was synonymous with dancing.

It now remains to be seen whether Pansula jive, a dance routine popular with Kwaito songs throughout Southern Africa will evoke yester year memories and rise to the top of the music charts again.
