The controversial Zanu PF youth member Energy Mutodi has released a new album titled Shanga Yangu Yawa.

In his Facebook Post Mutodi said his latest album is now out and available on Whatsup.

"Titled Shanga yangu yawa, the new album carries five songs namely the title track: Shanga yangu yawa, Ndinotendeuka, Ndanzwa kuchema kwenyu, Chipo and Tsumo yamakareva," he posted.

Energy who is a businessman, musician and a politician is currently studying for a doctoral degree in financial markets at the University of Cape Town.

He has authored several books used as text books in schools in Zimbabwe in the field of Geography. He says writing songs and singing is a talent he inherited from his mother Vaina Chipepura.

His grand mother named Gurwe Madaba was also a songstress and together with her daughter Vaina, they would entertain people during traditional beer ceremonies in Nyahunda district of Bikita as early as 1950.

Energy is therefore a proud inheritor of the Shona culture particularly the traditional and customary expressions he acquired through his own life experiences as well as through his acquaintance with the people of Zimbabwe.
Shanga yangu yawa which is his 13th album bears testimony to this.

The title track comes with an ancient chorus that says:

"Shanga yangu yawa gu
Yagonongwa naniko?
Namushayadende gu
Agoiisepiko?
Kurwizi rukuru
Kunodyiwa shavhi nenhengetenge
Nyama kwayo ndeyaparuware
Yepasi inozara mavhu"

"This song used to be sang in the pre-colonial era in Zimbabwe. Grand mothers used to sing it to juveniles as they entertained them while their mothers were busy with household chores," he posted.

Like the other albums he has done, Energy's new album comes with a rare taste of original Zimbabwean sungura beat that only the late great Leonard Dembo could do among a few other late musicians.

"If you are interested in listening to this great work, feel free to send us a request at whatsup numbers: +27630551407 and we will deliver some of the songs to you within 24 hrs," he said.

"Also contact Diamond Studios Artist and Record Manager John Muroyi on cell numbers: +263 7 74360245 if you need a copy of the album on CD."
