Dancehall artist Winky D, widely regarded as one of Zimbabwe's musical giants, is facing a major setback ahead of his highly anticipated "Crossover Show" on December 31, 2024. The Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), the venue he has consistently used for his most iconic performances, appears to have double-booked, putting his fans' hopes for a memorable New Year's Eve celebration at risk.

According to Winky D's legal team, Tsunga Law International, the musician had booked the venue back in May 2024, making all the necessary arrangements for the event. However, despite the early booking, venue owners have reportedly given priority to another event on the same date, disregarding the agreement with Winky D's management.

In an official statement titled "Public Notice on Winky D Crossover Show December 31, 2024," Winky D's lawyers expressed their disappointment, saying: "Our client remains enthusiastic about delivering an exceptional crossover performance at HICC, a venue his fans are very familiar with. His management team secured the venue as early as May 2024 and made all necessary arrangements for the show."

The statement continued: "Winky D values the connection he has with his fans and is dedicated to providing a memorable performance. He has invested significant effort into preparing for this event, reflecting his commitment to bringing joy to his audience. However, the venue owners have chosen to prioritise another event on the same date, which unfortunately disregards the agreement established with Winky D."

This development has left the artist and his fans in a challenging position. The HICC, affectionately known as "PaJabhuna" by his loyal followers, holds a special place in the artist's history. Winky D has used the venue for numerous groundbreaking performances, including the launch of his albums Eureka Eureka (2022), Njema (2019), and his 20-year anniversary celebration The Ghettocracy Score.

The statement from his lawyers acknowledged the difficulty of the situation, saying: "This unexpected turn of events threatens to disrupt what has been highly anticipated by both Winky D and his loyal fans. We recognise that such changes can be difficult for all parties involved, particularly for artistes who are deeply committed to their audiences."

Winky D's team assured fans that discussions are underway to resolve the issue, though further details were not disclosed. Fans who had been eagerly anticipating the concert are now left wondering if the iconic show will go ahead as planned, or if alternative arrangements will need to be made.

With less than a month to go before the Crossover Show, Winky D's team is working hard to ensure that the event is not derailed, and fans are being kept informed as the situation unfolds.
