The fans have spoken and it's all systems go for Oliver Mtukudzi's greatest hits concert where a playlist of songs chosen over the radio and online by fans will make up the music icon's set on Friday April 25, 2014 at the HICC.
This morning Tuku announced the full line up of guest artists who will accompany him for the show. These are Gary Tight, Ammara Brown, Guspy Warrior, Douglas Chimbetu, Tariro neGitare, Jean Masters, Sekuru Gweshe, Tanga wekwaSando and the talented Pakare Paye nurtured outfit, Tsvete.
The legendary former Black Spirits member, Picky Kasamba, will also make a special appearance at the show.
"The band and I are really excited by some of the song choices," Tuku said during a break from rehearsals for the show. "For one or two of the requests from the fans, it would not be right to perform them without Picky," he said, "so we have invited him and he has agreed to join us."
The selection of songs for the concert is being done via www.zimbojam.com and selected shows on ZiFM stereo. Most of the song list is done but Tuku said there was always room to add a song or two if the fans really wanted them. "We're leaving the voting open till the day before the show," he said, "if you take a look at the list and the song you want is not there, vote and ask your friends and family to vote too. That's how we'll know what to play."
The Greatest Hits Concert is being put together by Tuku Music in partnership with Impala Car Rental, ZiFM Stereo and Zimbo Jam. The partners are also running a number of competitions that will see lucky members of the public winning Holidays to Kariba and Nyanga, lunch with Tuku at his Pakare Paye Arts Centre, tickets to the show and other prizes.
The show, which was originally set for April 17, was postponed as an independence gala was announced for the same date and Tuku Music did not want the gig to clash with a national event.
