You know what's wrong with South Africa
01 Jun 2012 at 08:10hrs | Views
A cheeky and provocative new ad from Nando's asks viewers: "You know what's wrong with South Africa?"
A voiceover then speaks from the point of view of a xenophobic who answers with: "All you foreigners" as a scene of immigrants top-toeing across the SA border, luggage in hand, disappear in a puff of smoke and are told to "go back to where you came from".
The 52-second ad continues to eradicate Cameroonians, Congolese, Pakistanis, Somalians, Ghanaians and Nigerians and all manner of "non-native" South Africans, including Afrikaners, Europeans and Indians, Sothos, Vendas and others.
The new ad is part of Nando's Diversity campaign, where the flame-grilled chicken brand forces South Africans to question xenophobia and intolerance.
"Either way you look at it, we were all once foreigners in SA, except for the Khoisan of course," the company says.
Nando's said in a statement to Timeslive: "The advertisement is aimed at addressing a social ill and our approach is one that seeks to have South Africans take a stand against these prejudices by encouraging them to embrace the diverse inhabitants of our land."
