A LOVING relationship between a sick mother and her son came to a tragic end when the son allegedly stabbed her to death on Monday morning.
Neighbours of the small family in Q Section in Site B, Khayelitsha were in shock after the 20-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 43-year-old mother to death.
The mother, whose name can't be revealed until the suspect has appeared in court, suffered a stroke not long ago. Her son also suffered from fits, according to neighbours but took good care of his mother by washing her and taking her to the clinic.
A 22-year-old cousin who lived in the same house with the mother and son, said she heard the mother asking her son to warm water to bath her.
She said: "In no time I heard my aunt calling me, telling me to come and stop her son.
"When I got into the room he was on top of her. I first thought he was beating her with a fist.
"But then I realised he was stabbing her in the chest and face with a knife."
According to the cousin, the suspect also tried to stab her.
"We fought and I managed to grab the knife. I ran outside and screamed for help," she said. It's alleged the suspect received the okapi as a gift after his initiation in December.
Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said: "A 20-year-old was arrested after he stabbed his mother to death on Monday morning.
"He is being detained on a charge of murder until his court appearance."
