Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has engaged the Migrant workers union to loobby the foreign domestic workers to join it to fight for proper working conditions.

This was revealed by t6he Migant workers union official Butholezwe Nyathi who said due to the challenges of our mothers, sisters, aunties, uncles and brothers who work as domestic workers in various parts of South Africa, they have been called by the South African Domestic Workers Union, an affiliate to COSATU, to help mobilise foreign Domestic Workers to join them in their fight for proper working conditions.

"An injury to one Domestic worker is an injury to all domestic workers whether South African or foreigner. From our interaction with the Domestic Workers leadership, they fully understand the plight of migrant domestic workers and the are willing to help," he said.n "Those who want to interact with other Domestic Workers, join à mobilisation activity this Saturday (21/11/2015) in Johannesburg CBD. We value the special role and sacrifice of Domestic Workers who are the first to wake up and last to sleep. Some who are called all sorts of names, despised and made to do all sorts of work"

"If you have a relative who is a domestic worker, please get hold of us. We need to have about 100 Domestic Workers coming together to help formulate the way forward in 2016. I must also mention that MIWUSA has a group that is growing already and those who will come through the Migrant Workers' Association-SA (MWA-SA) shall be working together with the MIWUSA group. We have to unite as migrant workers when we approach South Africans," he added.

Nyathi said on the second issues; as a follow up to the meeting they had with Home Affairs on the 4th of November 2015, they have been asked to gather and bring to Home Affairs issues around Marabastad Refugee Reception Office.

"The issue of corruption is already known. Just a few days ago, I was contacted by people who were at Marabastad and Show Grounds and they said that they are being given less than two weeks to come back for renewal of their papers. These are the issues that are causing congestion at Marabastad RRO," he said. "That is what leads to corruption...we need to raise the problems and also put suggestions across. Once these issues have been raised, the organisation (MWA-SA) then gets a better way of following up. These should be issues that are affecting many people."

"For personal issues, we have the contacts of the Acting Marabastad Centre Manager, Mr Mfundo Ngozwana, we will be able to forward your issues to him. Perhaps, we might also gather common challenges as you send them to us and to Ngozwana," he added.
