We have had a good response as more people begin to show interest in this event that has surpassed my expectations.
The controversial Mr Ugly Pageant received overwhelming boost from both individuals and organisations at the recent Mr Ugly Africa launch at Garwe Restaurant.
Mr Ugly Africa contest is set for December in Johannesburg, South Africa at Sandton Convention Centre, the same venue used for Miss World 2008.
In an interview Mr Ugly pageant founder David "Apama" Machowa said he was alarmed by the overwhelming response from the people, and from that he is confident the pageant is aimed for greater heights. "It was a well-attended ceremony and individuals gave so much appreciation to the pageant by offering sponsorship and financial support to the pageant," said Machowa.
"Mr Horonga of Prime Leisure Centre (Ruwa) gave us $500 in support of running the pageant, Mr Eddy and Mr Mukandi of Mhizha Sports Bar and Night Club in Budiriro 4 gave us $1500 to assist in our trips to scout when we travel with Mr Kaseke of Coin Security putting in $1500 to support our pageant.
Other individuals that gave in financial support are Colonel Mangisi from BF Kwekwe (army) just to mention these few.
"Our sponsor Life Style Centre furniture are still supporting us all the way from Mr Ugly Zimbabwe to Mr Ugly Africa. For us Mr Ugly is receiving a big boost and support from all over the country so far. We are already starting our provincials as from April up to early June with the Mr ugly Zimbabwe competition in August.
"We therefore have been getting sponsorship for this event. We have had a good response as more people begin to show interest in this event that has surpassed my expectations. The event is going to be one of the best event on the world and my vision has extend to the biggest level thanks to our valued sponsors Lifestyle Centre Furniture," said Machowa.
The local organisers have established themselves well and created formidable partnerships with their counterparts in South Africa, this has enabled them to lay a strong foundation for the inaugural Mr Ugly Africa pageant. Mr Ugly World is also on the cards.
In the Mr Ugly Africa contest each country considered will provide two winners of previous Mr Ugly contests in their respective countries. The 2015 Mr Ugly Zimbabwe Mison Sere and two-time winner William Masvinu will represent Zimbabwe at the finals in South Africa.
The Mr Ugly contest started in 2009 as a social event but has gained international recognition. Mr Ugly Zimbabwe 2015 made headlines across the world when former winner William Masvinu, cried foul after being beaten by current title-holder Maison Sere.
