Tens of people have set camps at a homestead in Silozwi Village in Matobo District, Matabeleland South, after rumours filtered through that a youthful traditional healer had 'cured' three bed-ridden people of HIV and Aids.
A source said on average between 20 and 30 people flocked to the homestead daily to get 'rid' of the much dreaded infection.
"I met a woman last week who said she had been referred to the sangoma by a relative who had also come for treatment. Besides those few people coming from outside, most of the people are villagers from the surrounding villages," said the source.
It is understood that the traditional healer behind the 'pilgrimage' Sekuru Mandla Nyathi, only takes on average between three to 7 days to cure HIV or Aids sufferers.
Sekuru Nyathi reportedly tells his clients to undergo HIV tests after visiting him and the majority have come out clean, reports say. One such person is Mai Sandra who claims she tested HIV negative after visiting the traditional healer.
"I have tested twice and came out negative," she testified.
A village elder Gannet Dube said Sekuru Nhathi's fame spread like veld fire after he 'resurrected' a woman whose days on earth seemed nearing an end by each passing second.
"That woman was just a short moment away from passing on. Sekuru Nyathi asked for her to be brought to his homestead. She stayed there for a week and everyone thought she was going to die there. We were shocked after she left Sekuru Nyathi's homestead looking very strong," he said.
40-year-old Sekuru Nyathi says he has cured countless people.
"I think you have spoken to people who gave you testimony and if you still don't believe me bring anyone you know who is suffering from full blown Aids or is HIV positive and you will see the results on your own. I have healed many people and I have since lost count," he said.
He said his treatment regime takes around 3 to 7 days depending on the CD4 count of the client.
"I have to know the CD4 count of the client before anything is done so that I can measure my concoctions accordingly," said Sekuru Nyathi.
Asked to reveal how he got to know of the supposed billion-dollar 'Aids cure', the traditional healer said he was shown in a dream.
Interestingly, the sangoma said his cure is totally free of charge.
"People will just give me whatever they wish to give me after I treat them but personally I don't charge anything," he said.
