The government has finalised harmonised consultation tariffs for medical practitioners, a development that is expected to resolve the stalemate between the Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZIMA) and the Association of Medical Aid Funders (AHFOZ).
The chairman of the Joint Advisory Council, who is also the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr Douglas Mombeshora says most of the tariffs for medical practitioners across all disciplines have now been set.
He said the tariffs have been categorised, while fees for medical procedures will be announced in due course.
Dr Mombeshora said some tariffs have been reviewed downwards while others have remained constant and others have been increased.
He could however not be drawn into revealing the exact figures, saying the Joint Advisory Council will put them in writing to ZIMA and AHFOZ before the end of this week.
The government had to intervene and began consultations on setting a tariff earlier this year after ZIMA and AHFOZ failed to come to a consensus on the figures to charge for consultation.
Doctors were proposing an increase from US$35 to US$50 a visit but medical aid societies were insisting on US$35.
