Ambassador Jacqueline Zwambila applies for asylum in Austriallia

In the most bizarre of events, recalled Zimbabwean ambassador to Australia Jacqueline Zwambila has refused to return to the country she diplomatically represented for close to 4 years.

Ambassador Zwambila of the Movement for Democratic Change led by former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was seconded to represent the country in Australia in 2010 as part of the Global Political Agreement arrangement in the now defunct Government of National Unity. President Mugabe on coming to power recalled almost all the ambassadors seconded by opposition MDC factions including Zwambila ending their diplomatic terms on the 31st of December 2013.

In a diplomatic shocker, the ambassador has refused to come back to Zimbabwe claiming that she is afraid of being arrested by the Mugabe government. Her reason is that the government will arrest her for refusing to pay $2700 claimed by a private contractor for repairs made on her house in Harare. She further states that the government is arresting members of the opposition MDC T wantonly and she fears she might be arrested too.

The ambassador's stance leaves a shock to many bringing to doubt her diplomatic credentials for the country. A political commentator who refused to be named as he said he had not yet got details of the issue said that if its true then Zwambila's actions are tantamount to treason.

"Its extremely unexpected of an ambassador to behave this way. It means that she has not been fully representing the country and such actions are treasonous." Said the commentator.

Ambassador Zwambila's stay in Australia has been marred with controversy including accusations that she once stripped naked in public claim which she took to court and won on a technicality last week. Her secondment to Australia was also met with huge complaints from members of the MDC T who accused Tsvangirai of sending her to Australia to protect his relationship with his then lover now ex wife Locardia Karimatsenga Tembo. Zwambila was at that time in illicit relationship with Tsvangirai which was well known within the MDC T structures resulting in it spilling into public ears.

Zwambila is said to have moved out of the official residence in Australia into the custody of some close relatives that she had brought with to Australia while she was ambassador. She refused to accept the business class flight ticket that had been issued to her to fly back to Zimbabwe.
