Television personality and socialite Makosi Musambasi was one of the winners in the second edition of the Zimbabwe International Women Achievers awards held in Birmingham, United Kingdom on Saturday.

She was voted the media professional of the year for her role in the production of her television show Makosi Today which is a continental programme that has seen her interview internationally acclaimed personalities since its inception.

The winners' list also included prominent women like Kirsty Coventry, actress Danai Gurira and telecommunications mogul Strive Masiyiwa's wife Tsitsi.

The Zimbabwe International Women Awards (Ziwa) were founded in 2013 to celebrate and recognise the unsung heroines in the Zimbabwean community.

There are women who work from outside the country but make tremendous contribution back home from entrepreneurship, business, education, social, charity, humanitarian work, entertainment and arts.

Those are the women who Ziwa targets.

According to Ziwa organisers,  the reason for the awards is to cultivate a spirit of hard work among young women and nurture them to demystify the old fashioned belief that they are inferior.

"We seek to bring these role models together, not only to celebrate and recognise their success, but to inspire the younger generation of Zimbabwean women," said the organisers.
