"I would like to pose a question today, for the Youth is about to be active and change the gear, it is about to get hot, if I am arrested for the revolutionary business of ZAPU, tell me will you stand up and defend me, will you defend the Party?" asked the vibrant ZAPU Youth Front leader, Cde Arnold Dube. Mr Dube is known for his radicalism, he once closed the Zimbabwe Embassy in London in protest of continued illegal land seizures and abductions in Zimbabwe by the Mugabe regime.
"Today in Zimbabwe the Youth Front and ZAWU are holding their elective Conferences and without a shadow of a doubt the Youth leadership which shall emerge from there will be vibrant and raring to cut its political teeth" Mr Dube continued.
On Saturday the 2nd May 2015, ZAPU Europe held its last AGM before the expiry of the term of the current PEC. The AGM was lively mainly because of the Youth which kept the leadership on its toes. In attendance was the Secretary General of ZAPU Dr Ralph Mguni who said that ZAPU has done a lot since its revival and that at the moment it has reached a stage where it is ready to compete in the political field in a serious manner. "The journey was by no means a walk in the park, we lost many good Cdes along the way, some were clearly planted to destabilise the Party, but the majority had too high expectations not grounded in reality, so they left" Dr Mguni said.
"This PEC (Europe PEC) has clearly punched above its weight, the work this PEC has done is amazing, you heard Cde Maphosa reporting back on the work of this PEC, of course there is still more that needs to be done, but we are thankful and appreciative of the efforts of this PEC" Dr Mguni said to a thunderous applause.
Cde Thulani Nkala the ZAPU Europe Information Secretary made an anoouncement about the forthcoming June 10th parliamentary by-elections and asked for support for the candidates, he said that Cdes Dr Strike Mnkandla, Jonathan J. Ndlovu, Amon Nyamambi Dube, Alderman Michael Mpofu, and Casper Sibanda will be representing ZAPU in these forthcoming elections. "We have reached a defining moment in the affairs of ZAPU, these coming elections will be a game-changer for ZAPU, the truth is that ZANU PF cannot compete or win an election against a revitalised and buoyant ZAPU" Mr Nkala incandescently delivered his speech to a raucous applause.
The AGM was expertly controlled by the ever green MC- Mr Eckem Ndlovu, whose revolutionary songs and humour kept the people entertained throughout the day.
Mr Maphosa announced that the structures should get ready for the Provincial Elections which will take place early next year.
