Former Radio Zimbabwe presenter Eric Knight who organised a funding raising function for the Zimbabwe Health sector in Switzerland has said the even was successful and resounding.
"I want to thank God the Almighty for the resounding success of our ZimHealth project in Switzerland. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am back in the UK and I am proud to share the great news to my country and nation Zimbabwe. Hundreds of people from all walks of life were part of this colourful event," he said.
"The ZimHealth Fundraiser Show 2015 which we conveniently dubbed 'Sharing Fun For a Great Cause' was held in Geneva last Saturday. In brief, this is a project that we started after realisng deteriorating health services in our country. Our focus for now is urban polyclinics which form the backbone of primary healthcare and we earmarked 24 haeathcare institutions in Zimbabwe in Harare, KoBulawayo, Mutare, Masvingo, Gweru, Kariba, Gwanda, Kadoma, Karoi, Marondera, Chegutu, Chinhoyi, Bindura, KweKwe, Zvishavane, Chibi and Rusape."
He said they were also targeting healthcare for mothers and babies from some of Zimbabwe's disdvantaged communities.
"It is our policy to spend every cent we raise on the purchse of medical equipment and medical supplies for health institutions in our country. The Government can not do it alone. Currently Mabvuku is our priority and we are faced with a $1million project to expand the Mabvuku Polyclinic," he said.
"This expansion will provide Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal services which will reduce referrals to Harare Gomo Hospital where I was born, also resulting in better care for mothers and babies both at Mabvuku and Harare hospital, consequently preventing and reducing martenal and neonatal deaths. We have set aside a 3 Year period also to mobilise resources to support rural mission clinics and send further support to Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo."
Knight said they were grateful to all corporate and individual partners for all the contributions in cash and kind.
"The show was excellent and we are 90% towards our first target! We are already planning for the next events, also expanding to many parts of the world in USA, UK and other countries," he said.
"I want to personally thank all our Team in Switzerland for sacrificing your time and resources towards this worthy cause. I want to thank our Zimbabwean Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Sec to the United Nations Baba Taonga Mushayavanhu who graced the occasion representing the Government of Zimbabwe. We are delighted to get the blessings of the Zimbabwean Government and for them to appreciate our efforts."
He thanked Botswana and Namibia Ambassadors to Swizterland for attending the event to support.
"Thank you to the Municipality of Versoix in Geneva for the reduced rates to the wonderful venue we utilised. I want to conclude by reminding all Zimbabweans that ZimHealth is a non political institution that welcomes every person and organisation committed to the goodwill and health issues of Zimbabwe. God bless Zimbabwe! God bless Africa!," he said.
