Zuva Petroleum selling contaminated fuel, officials reveal

A key oil asset once owned by BP in the country, Zuva Petroleum sold fuel contaminated with water to unsuspecting motorists.
Officials at the firm which has countless stations across the country admitted selling contaminated petrol.
According to Saturday reports, Zuva Petroleum Bulawayo branch manager, a Power said affected cars will be compensated.
"Everything is under control. It happened after the rains. Water got into one of the tanks. Zuva and Zera bosses came here to ascertain the situation but all those with affected cars would be compensated," he is quoted saying.
Motorists claimed their vehicles failed to start after buying the petrol that had been mixed with water at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and Third Avenue filling station this week
A few months ago, several leading fuel retailers in Zimbabwe, purportedly partly owned by Swiss companies, were accused of importing contaminated diesel which contains high levels of sulphur content for bigger profits.
In an investigation report titled How Swiss Traders Flood Africa with Toxic Fuels, a Swiss corporate watchdog, Public Eye accuses leading fuel companies of importing toxic fuel.
Sakunda Holdings, Redan Petroleum and Zuva Petroleum, whose majority shareholders are Swiss-based oil giants Glencore and Trafigura, were fingered as contributing to the importation of toxic fuels into Zimbabwe.
