MLF raps BCC over security attack on vendor

Mthwakazi Liberation Front spokesperson Ndabezinhle Fuyane has rapped the Bulawayo City Council over the attack of a vendor by its security leading to him fainting.

"As MLF, we are dismayed by the attack of a vendor in Bulawayo by the City Council's law enforcers. This simply shows how much is the difference if one can note any, between the Robert Mugabe and Emmerson Mnangagwa administration," he said.

"In 2014, a research showed that over 49% of Bulawayo people were unemployed. It further showed that Human poverty was put at 55% while over 53 % of Bulawayo people lived below the food poverty datum line."

He said one cannot be surprised to learn that the current rate of unemployment, human poverty and food poverty datum line have almost doubled over these 3years, since many more factories have closed down, forcing tens of thousands more into the streets.

"It has further been revealed that many families live just on $5 a day in Bulawayo, with many families having resorted to 2 meals per day. It then boggles one's mind to learn that the government and its city council is unaware of the hardships that the people are living in, to an extent that it will go out guns blazing killing people who are struggling to make ends meet," he said.

"In the years of 2009, although according to some researches the operation started at around 2005, the Mugabe administration, launched Operation Murambatsvina destroying hundreds of thousands of homes and livelihood directly affection almost 700,000 people and indirectly affecting around 2.4 million more people. This time around with the rate of unemployment and poverty sky rocketing, the Mnangagwa administration is red hot on the heels of the people who are trying all they can to put food on their family tables."

He said what crime have they committed by selling fruits and vegetables in the city streets?

"It is a shame that the government that has nothing to offer to alleviate poverty will make it a point that it presses down those that strive to make honest living, using its Gukurahundistic ways. A clever government that is set to serve the interests of the people would dare crush those that try to cover its shame but it would rather support them," he said.

"What the Bulawayo Security Officers did portrays simply how much useless and less caring for the people, is the administration of Mnangagwa. As MLF, we are so much dismayed by the attack by the city council on innocent and responsible people and we would like to take this time and convey our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We again on that note, urge all Bulawayo residents to stand up against such inhumane treatment on them."
