HARARE City Council (HCC) has announced an emergency shutdown of Warren control waterworks treatment plants tomorrow and on Tuesday, a move which will result in Harare residents going without water for at least two days.

"The Harare City Council would like to notify residents and stakeholders that there will be a 16-hour emergency shutdown of Warren Control waterworks scheduled from 16:00 hours on Monday 25 January up to 08:00 hours on Tuesday 26 January 2021," the council said in a statement.

"The emergency shutdown is to enable repairs to pump six and seven on the Alex side which broke down recently resulting in decreased water supply to the CBD, North and North Western suburbs for the past two weeks."

Council said preparations for the repair were now complete, hence the scheduling of the repair.

"Morton Jaffray shall stop pumping to Warren Control at 16 hours on Monday in preparation for the actual repair work which will start at midnight," said the local authority.

Council said it expected to complete the repair works on Tuesday morning and resumption of Morton Jaffray would start around 0800 hours.

The water treatment plant has been shut down several times this year because of shortages of chemicals used in treating water and incapacitation.
