THERE is intense jockeying among Zanu-PF members for the vacant secretary for youth affairs with President Emmerson Mnangagwa reportedly keeping his cards close to his chest on who to select..
Mnangagwa was expected to announce the secretary for youth affairs position at the party's elective congress last week.
However, Mnangagwa who announced a partial Politburo and 10 central committee members from one each province said he was still consulting on the secretary for youth affairs position.
Although Mnangagwa is expected to announce the youth boss, sources in the ruling party yesterday said money was exchanging hands as aspirants gun for the post.
According to sources, Deputy Sports minister and Hwedza South MP Tino Machakaire is said to be eyeing the influential position.
Several names have been thrown into the hat with former youth boss Lewis Mathuthu set to be considered.
Mathuthu was recently elected to the central committee. Others candidates who Mnangagwa is expected to look at are Information Communication Technology (ICT) minister Jenfan Muswere, Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe.
Zanu-PF national spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said people should not waste their money campaigning for the position..
"You have to know that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is a straight person who does not save the interest of any individual but for the party. If there are people who are using their money it's a waste of resources and money and they should stop it," Mutsvangwa said.
Zanu-PF Gutu West MP John Paradza was elected as the deputy secretary for youth affairs this year.
