A TRIO from Parirewa village in Domboshava, Mashonaland East province, facing kidnapping and armed robbery charges yesterday claimed that they were severely beaten and harassed while in police custody.
Nesbert Nyamugafata, Silverstone Khumalo and Taurai Kasora appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who said the case should be transferred to the High Court based on the magnitude of the charges they faced.
The firearm they allegedly used during the robberies was presented as evidence.
It is alleged that they committed the offence on November 23, 2022 at Santa Heights bus stop where they got into the complainant's vehicle and kidnapped him.
Nyamugafata then drove about 800 metres to his girlfriend's house where he assaulted the complainant using a rubber object and empty bottles.
He forcibly took the complainant's phone, US$800, his car keys and drove to Murove village where he further assaulted him.
Nyamugafata allegedly ordered the complainant to lie on the ground along Nyamande Road, took his ring and assaulted him with a sjambok.
The trio then made the complainant to lie on the car bonnet where they continued assaulting him using metal rods.
The trio was further remanded to December 15 pending investigations.
