President Emmerson Mnangagwa has left for New York, United States of America, where he will join other heads of state for the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The President will join other world leaders for the high level meeting, which is already underway.

This Tuesday will be the first day of the high level general debate.

About 150 heads of state are expected to attend the key meeting.

The general debate will be centred on the theme: ‘Rebuilding Trust and Re-igniting Global Solidarity: "Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals Towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for All".

Among the issues that have overtime been discussed at the United Nations General Assembly is that of climate change and it is one that has affected food production and Zimbabwe has not been spared.

As President Mnangagwa leaves for the meeting, Zimbabwe is working to buffer the effects of climate change through deliberate policies put in place by government which include dam construction and increasing hectarage under irrigation.

The issue of Ukraine and Russia is also expected to come under the spotlight.
